No. Acupuncture and therapeutic laser therapy are gentle, non-invasive treatments and will not hurt your pet.

Laser therapy does not involve cutting, burning, needles, or sedation. Most pets tolerate it very well, and many relax during treatment. Some pets may feel a gentle warmth in the area being treated, but the session should be calm and comfortable.

Acupuncture uses very fine needles placed carefully into specific points on the body. Many pets accept acupuncture surprisingly well, and some become sleepy or deeply relaxed during their session. Treatment is always tailored to your pet’s comfort level, and we go at their pace.

Every pet is different, and the number of sessions depends on their condition, age, mobility, comfort level, and overall treatment goals.

Some pets show signs of improvement after the first session, such as being more relaxed, moving more comfortably, or seeming brighter at home. However, for longer-term conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility, the best results are often seen with a course of treatment.

A typical starting plan may involve one session per week for four to six weeks, followed by reassessment. After this, some pets move onto maintenance sessions every few weeks, while others may only need occasional support during flare-ups or periods of discomfort.

At the first visit, Dr Tara Card will carry out a full veterinary and mobility assessment, review your pet’s medical history, and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your pet’s individual needs.

After treatment, many pets are relaxed and may rest more deeply than usual. Some owners notice their pet seems brighter, more comfortable, or moves more easily later that day or over the next few days.

Occasionally, pets may feel a little tired after acupuncture or laser therapy, especially after their first session. This is usually mild and short-lived. Dr Tara Card will explain what to expect after treatment and let you know if there is anything specific to monitor.

You may be asked to observe your pet’s mobility, comfort, activity levels, sleep, appetite, and general behaviour at home. This helps guide future sessions and allows the treatment plan to be adjusted to your pet’s individual response.

Yes. Pets are seen by referral from their primary veterinary surgeon so that medical records can be reviewed before treatment begins.

This helps ensure that everyone involved in your pet’s care is on the same page and that acupuncture or laser therapy is appropriate for your pet’s condition, diagnosis, current medication, and overall treatment plan.

After assessment and treatment, a clinical record will also be sent back to your referring vet so they remain informed and involved in your pet’s ongoing care.

Beyond the Vet Clinic currently offers home visits across the Midlands.

Travel within 20 miles of our base is included in the price. Visits between 20 and 30 miles may incur a £10 travel fee, and visits between 30 and 40 miles a £20 travel fee. Visits beyond 40 miles may be possible by arrangement, and any travel fee is confirmed at the time of booking.

Yes. Many pet insurance policies include cover for complementary, integrative, or rehabilitative therapies, although this varies between providers and individual policies.

Beyond the Vet Clinic can provide the clinical records and invoices needed for insurance claims where appropriate. Please check with your insurance provider before treatment to confirm whether acupuncture, therapeutic laser therapy, or home-visit veterinary care is included under your policy.
